A review of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Latin America and the Caribbean. Companies and implementation of new policies

This research is based on the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) paradigm to critically examine the impact it has had on companies, citing and analyzing some outstanding case studies within the area of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). It is not so much a question of exposing the theoretical foundations of CSR as of studying the influence that CSR has exerted in the world of companies and how these have changed since the application of the new policies related to Corporate Social Responsibility. The article ends by drawing a series of conclusions that, although they conform to the companies analyzed, it is possible that they can be extrapolated to the rest of companies, something that in any case will have to elucidate subsequent and comparative studies: the interest of many LAC companies in CSR is clear; it is necessary to analyze the evolution of the degree of compliance with CSR; despite the progress to be made, some LAC companies committed to CSR are becoming regional and global benchmarks for socially and environmentally responsible policies.
Este trabajo parte del paradigma de la Responsabilidad Social Corporativa (RSC) para examinar críticamente el impacto que ha tenido en las empresas, citando y analizando algunos casos de estudio destacados dentro del área de América Latina y el Caribe (ALC). El objetivo principal no es tanto exponer los fundamentos teóricos de la RSC como estudiar la influencia que ha ejercido la RSC en el mundo de las empresas y cómo estas han cambiado a partir de la aplicación de las políticas de nuevo cuño relativas a la Responsabilidad Social Corporativa. El artículo finaliza extrayendo una serie de conclusiones que, si bien se ajustan a las empresas analizadas, es posible que se puedan extrapolar al resto de empresas, algo que en todo caso deberán dilucidar estudios posteriores y comparativos: es claro el interés de muchas empresas de ALC por la RSC; es necesario analizar la evolución del grado de cumplimiento de la RSC; pese a los avances por hacer, algunas empresas de ALC comprometidas con la RSC se están convirtiendo en referentes regionales y mundiales de políticas social y medioambiental responsables.
