Description

Soil contamination with heavy metals is an environmental problem throughout the world, as these elements are toxic even in lower concentrations (Rascio and Navari-Izzo, 2011) and can persist in soils for centuries (Voglar and Lestan, 2012). The heavy metal pollution in urban and agricultural areas is the result of different human activities like mining, smelting, and land filling of industrial waste. The most common heavy metals in industrial effluents are Cd, Zn, Cr, and Ni (Sun et al., 2010; Gusiatin and Klimiuk, 2012).
