- Description
This research will explore Generative Folding Structure which is created when concrete is sprayed on bended metal pieces in order to develop a new aesthetic structure with these building materials, and the main objective of this portfolio is to illustrate the process that was followed to create complex geometries with this method. The design was produced using steel sheets that were laser cut to specific patterns which enable the material to be manipulated in order to create a 3D volume from a 2D surface. Afterwards, concrete was sprayed on the surface to make it more rigid and stable. The strategy of the project consists in joining several components together to create a large scale proposal; therefore, the design of the component and the way in which it is connected is crucial in the design. We therefore conducted several geometrical experiments in order to determine the most efficient method and design. As a result, we discovered that this particular method, which is based on steel sheets and sprayed concrete, displays efficient structural performance along with interesting aesthetic features; moreover, the method can work to manufacture structures on a large scale.
