The geothermal exploration began in Ecuador in 1978. These studies were carried by the Ecuadorian Institute of Electrification (INECEL), under the supervision of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), the goal of this investigation was to determine all possible source of energy production and thus minimize the consumption and production of fossil fuels.
