This article is a first partial advancement of a research project in progress that is aimed at making a diagnosis on the current cultural situation of Machala, canton that belongs to the Ecuadorian province of El Oro. The central purpose of this investigation is to check through an exploratory-qualitative questionnaire the perception that certain segments of the machale?a society have concerning their cultural reality. Therefore, it is not intended to measure or propose any methodological model, but rather to stimulate reflection and discussion on different ways to analyze the cultural reality under a social approach, that can give way to interpretative lines with the incorporation of new social indicators that take into account both the actions and their impacts as well as the citizens' perception on local cultural status and whose information can contribute to the adoption of strategies to overcome the identified limitations.
Este art?culo constituye un primer avance de un proyecto de investigaci?n en curso que tiene como finalidad la realizaci?n de un diagn?stico sobre la situaci?n cultural actual de Machala, cant?n adscripto a la provincia ecuatoriana de El Oro. El objeto central de estas l?neas consiste en chequear la percepci?n que determinados segmentos de la sociedad machale?a tienen sobre su realidad cultural a trav?s de un cuestionario de car?cter exploratorio-cualitativo. No se pretende, por tanto, medir, ni proponer modelo metodol?gico alguno, pero s? estimular l?neas de reflexi?n sobre otra forma de analizar la realidad cultural bajo un enfoque social que permita abrir l?neas interpretativas con la incorporaci?n de nuevos aportes indicativos sociales que tomen el pulso tanto a las acciones y sus incidencias como a la visi?n de la ciudadan?a sobre el estado cultural local, y cuya informaci?n pueda contribuir a la adopci?n de estrategias que superen las limitaciones detectadas.
