Description: The article contains an analysis of the principal factors that cause insecurity within the countries of Central America, and its geopolitical and humanitarian effects, principally to Mexico and the US. This phenomenon adds a though challenge to the governments, due to the resources that have criminal organizations. Therefore, public insecurity and drug trafficking turn into the principal security issues to the government and to the citizens. For ends and purposes, within this article, the region of Central America has been divided into two: Northern Triangle (Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador), and Southern Triangle (Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama).
El artículo contiene un análisis de los principales factores que generan inseguridad en los países de América Central, y sus efectos geopolíticos y humanitarios, principalmente hacia México y Estados Unidos. Este fenómeno agrega a los gobiernos un desafío superior por los recursos con los que cuentan las organizaciones criminales. Así, la inseguridad ciudadana y el narcotráfico se vuelven los principales asuntos de seguridad, tanto para el gobierno como para la población. Cabe destacar que para propósitos de este artículo, se divide a la región en dos: el triángulo norte, conformado por Guatemala, Honduras y El Salvador, y el triángulo sur, por Nicaragua, Costa Rica y Panamá.
