Revuelta y resistencia: indígenas, ciudadanía mestiza y Estado en la movilización social de octubre de 2019 en Ecuador (Tema Central)

In October 2019, the rejection of economic policy in Ecuador prompted the mobilization of the indigenous population, and other population segments. The government launched legal proceedings against indigenous people, students, and workers; they were arrested and criminally prosecuted, accused of setting fire to the Comptroller’s Office building. The defendants’ defense requested the intercultural considerations that the case warranted, through a cultural anthropology expertise, which would allow understanding the implicit elements in the facts related to the criminal proceedings for sabotage and terrorism. The article contributes with an anthropological analysis, in the context of the judicial process, for the understanding of the context of indigenous resistance, mobilization and revolt, from an intercultural perspective; where the ethnographic and historical approach provides information on the cultural and social reasons identified in the social mobilization and participation of both the indigenous movement and the population of the city.
En octubre de 2019, el rechazo a la política económica en Ecuador impulsó la movilización de organizaciones indígenas y de otros segmentos poblacionales. El Gobierno promovió procesos judiciales contra indígenas, estudiantes y trabajadores, quienes fueron detenidos y procesados penalmente, acusados de actos terroristas. La defensa de los procesados solicitó las consideraciones de interculturalidad que el caso ameritaba, a través de una pericia de antropología cultural que permitiese comprender los elementos implícitos en los hechos relacionados con el proceso penal por sabotaje y terrorismo. El artículo aporta con un análisis antropológico, en el contexto del proceso judicial, desde una mirada etnográfica, cuya interpretación se ancla en los elementos históricos y sociales analizados, que exponen un vínculo entre la construcción y reconstrucción de la etnicidad indígena y el rechazo a políticas públicas que afectan a la economía de la población de bajos ingresos económicos.
