OBJETIVO: El objetivo de la investigación realizada en este estudio fue la determinación del IHO en los niños y niñas escolares de 12 años dentro de la parroquia Sucre, Cuenca, Azuay - Ecuador 2016, en base a la cuantificación total de sus fichas, pertenecientes a la Parroquia Sucre del Cantón Cuenca en el año 2016. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: El modelo de estudio que se utilizó para este estudio fue cuantitativo, descriptivo, documental y observacional en las escuelas fiscales, fiscomisionales y particulares dentro de la parroquia Sucre, dentro de la cual se pudo manejar una muestra total de 129 fichas de las cuales hubo un total de 72 hombres y 57 mujeres, mismos que fueron examinados y evaluados. Estos registros obtenidos fueron archivados en el programa EPI INFO 7.2 de las computadoras de la Universidad Católica de Cuenca. RESULTADOS: El promedio de IHO de la parroquia Sucre fue de 1,05 correspondiente a un nivel Bueno de IHO de un cuantificado total de 129 fichas. Se obtuvo que las escuelas fiscomisionales del sector demostraron tener un promedio de IHO más alto que las fiscales y particulares con valores correspondientes a 1,22 – 1,14 – 0,77 que representan un nivel Bueno. Sin embargo, según el género el IPB demostró que los hombres con 1,06 tienen un promedio más alto que las mujeres con 0,86 y que en el caso de las piezas dentales más afectadas fueron la pieza 1.6 – 2.6 y 3.6 con valores superiores al 1,15 pero menores a 1,25. CONCLUSIÓN: según el IPB de 0,97 y el IPC de 0,09 da un promedio total para la parroquia de IHO de 1,05 que según la escala propuesta por Greene y Vermillion está en un nivel Bueno
The objective of the research carried out in this study was the determination of the IHO in the school children of 12 years in the parish Sucre, Cuenca, Azuay-Ecuador 2016, based on the total quantification of their chips, belonging to the Sucre Parish of the Canton Cuenca in the year 2016.
