ASOCIACIÓN ENTRE LA OCUPACIÓN LABORAL Y LA INDIFERENCIA AL TRATAMIENTO ODONTOLÓGICO EN ADULTOS MAYORES DE 65 AÑOS, DE LA PARROQUIA HERMANO MIGUEL, CUENCA 2017

OBJETIVO: El siguiente proyecto de investigación tiene como finalidad determinar la relación entre la ocupación laboral y la indiferencia al tratamiento odontológico en adultos mayores de 65 años de la parroquia Hermano Miguel de la ciudad de Cuenca. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: la referida investigación es de tipo caso-control, la metodología aplicada al estudio fue con enfoque cuantitativo. La población estudiada fue de 414 personas de 65 años a más pertenecientes a la parroquia Hermano Miguel. Del total de las encuestas se obtuvo una muestra por conveniencia de 142 personas, 71 casos y 71 controles. Para la encuesta se utilizó el cuestionario (DIS) Escala de Indiferencia Dental de Nuttall NM. RESULTADOS: Los resultados obtenidos mostraron que el 86% de la población expuesta (con empleo bajo) presentan indiferencia dental, frente a un 14% que no presenta indiferencia al tratamiento dental. El 38% de la población no expuesta (ocupación alta) presenta indiferencia dental, y 56% de la población no expuesta no es indiferente al tratamiento dental, por otro lado, las edades que presentaron mayor indiferencia estuvieron comprendida entre 66 y 68 años. Se obtuvo un Odds Ratio de 9.94 que indica que la ocupación laboral es un factor de riesgo para generar indiferencia dental en personas mayores de 65 años de la parroquia Hermano Miguel de la ciudad de Cuenca. CONCLUSIÓN: los altos niveles de indiferencia dental en la parroquia Hermano Miguel sugiere la iniciativa de programas preventivos, motivación y terapéuticas que ayuden a mejorar el estado de salud bucodental en esta población específica.
OBJECTIVE: The following research project aims to determine the relationship between occupation and indifference to dental treatment in adults over 65 years of the Hermano Miguel parish in the city of Cuenca. MATERIALS AND METHODS: the aforementioned research is of the case-control type, the methodology applied to the study was with a quantitative approach. The population studied was 414 people aged 65 and over belonging to the Hermano Miguel parish. From the total of the surveys, a sample was obtained for the convenience of 142 people, 71 cases and 71 controls. The questionnaire (DIS) Scale of Dental Indifference of Nuttall NM was used for the survey. RESULTS: The results obtained showed that 86% of the exposed population (with low employment) show dental indifference, compared to 14% who do not show indifference to dental treatment. 38% of the unexposed population (high occupation) shows dental indifference, and 56% of the non-exposed population is not indifferent to dental treatment, on the other hand, the ages that showed greater indifference were between 66 and 68 years. An Odds Ratio of 9.94 was obtained, which indicates that occupational occupation is a risk factor to generate dental indifference in people over 65 years of the Hermano Miguel parish in the city of Cuenca. CONCLUSION: the high levels of dental indifference in the Hermano Miguel parish suggest the initiative of preventive, motivational and therapeutic programs that help improve the oral health status in this specific population
