OBJETIVO: Determinar la prevalencia de autopercepción de enfermedad periodontal en personas de 18 a 44 años de edad de la parroquia San Joaquín Cuenca-Ecuador, Agosto 2017 - Abril 2018. \n \nMATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo con 521 personas entre 18 a 44 años de la parroquia San Joaquín. El instrumento aplicado es una encuesta de autopercepción. La investigación forma parte del estudio sobre factores asociados “Barreras para acceder a servicios odontológicos en la Ciudad de Cuenca.” \n \nRESULTADOS: Existe una prevalencia de autopercepción negativa de enfermedad periodontal en el 62% de personas. La media de edad de la muestra fue de 31 años. La prevalencia de autopercepción de enfermedad periodontal fue mayor en mujeres con el 55% mientras los hombres registraron el 45%. Considerando el nivel de instrucción, se identificó que el 66% de personas que auto percibieron tener enfermedad periodontal, poseen estudios bajos. \n \nCONCLUSIONES: La autopercepción de enfermedad periodontal es mayor en mujeres y en personas con niveles educativos bajos, pese a ello no se registran relaciones de significancia entre las variables.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of self-perception of periodontal disease in people from 18 to 44 years of age of the parish of San Joaquin Cuenca-Ecuador, August 2017 - April 2018. \n \nMATERIALS AND METHODS: Descriptive, retrospective study with 521 people between 18 and 44 years of the San Joaquín parish. The applied instrument is a selfperception survey. The research is part of the study on associated factors "Barriers to access dental services in the City of Cuenca." \n \nRESULTS: There is a prevalence of negative self-perception of periodontal disease in 62% of people. The mean age of the sample was 31 years. The prevalence of selfperception of periodontal disease was higher in women with 55% while men registered 45%. Considering the level of education, it was identified that 66% of people who perceived themselves to have periodontal disease, have low studies. \n \nCONCLUSIONS: The self-perception of periodontal disease is higher in women and in people with low educational levels, despite this there are no significant relationships between the variables.
