Los fluoruros son empleados con fin terapéutico y preventivo, en el área odontológica se ha demostrado que aumentan la resistencia del esmalte dental reprimiendo el proceso carioso y microbiano debido a sus dos vías de ingreso al organismo; la primera es la sistemática y otra que es la tópica. OBJETIVO: Determinar los efectos del uso excesivo de fluoruros en población pediátrica. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Se realizó revisión bibliográfica con artículos científicos empleando una estrategia especifica en Pubmed, Scopus, Redalyc, Scielo y Web of Science que respondan a la pregunta ¿Cuáles son los efectos del uso excesivo del flúor en la población pediátrica? RESULTADOS: Se determinó que el flúor en dosis extremas local y sistemático ocasiona efectos dañinos a la salud del paciente pediátrico. CONCLUSIONES: El Flúor muchas ocasiones sobrepasa la dosis permitida provocando alteraciones tanto en la dentición temporal como en la dentición permanente, ocasionando efectos dañinos a nivel dental, esquelético, gastrointestinal y cognitivo.
Fluorides are used for therapeutic and preventive purposes; in the dental field, it has been demonstrated that they enhance dental enamel resistance by inhibiting the carious and microbial process due to their two ways of entering the organism: systematic, and the other one is topical. OBJECTIVE: To determine the effects of excessive fluoride usage in the pediatric population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A literature review was conducted on scientific articles using a specific strategy in PubMed, Scopus, Redalyc, SciELO, and Web of Science that answer the investigation question: What are the effects of excessive fluoride usage in the pediatric population? RESULTS: It was observed that fluoride in extreme local and systemic doses causes harmful effects on pediatric patients' dental health. CONCLUSIONS: Fluoride often exceeds the recommended dosage causing alterations in primary and permanent dentition, causing harmful effects on dental, skeletal, gastrointestinal, and cognitive levels.
