Estrategias para el manejo de desechos de radiología para Odontólogos del Distrito Metropolitano de Quito periodo 2014 - 2015

El Ministerio De Salud Pública conjuntamente con el Ministerio Del Ambiente de la República Del Ecuador ha establecido leyes para proteger al ser humano y medio ambiente. Los Desechos radiográficos que son producto de la radiografía dental, método de diagnóstico esencial para la detección de patologías dentro de la cavidad oral. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar como manejan los odontólogos del Distrito Metropolitano de Quito (Pichincha, Ecuador) periodo 2014-2015 los desechos producidos por la actividad radiográfica. Doscientos dieciséis profesionales respondieron un cuestionario con preguntas objetivas sobre el desecho de líquido revelador, fijador, película radiográfica y lámina de plomo presente en el paquete radiográfico periapical además se preguntó su nivel conocimientos sobre las leyes actuales de manejo de desechos. Aproximadamente el 52% de la encuestada desecha la solución fijadora y reveladora por el desagüe común, además de tirar las películas radiográficas insatisfactorias en basura común. Cerca de un 48% desecha las láminas de plomo en basura común. Un sesenta y un porciento desconoce totalmente las leyes y normativas sobre el manejo de desechos de radiología y un 93% de los encuestados aseguro que le gustaría que se generase un manual en el que se detalle el manejo, adecuado de los desechos de radiología, generando un requerimiento para su creación. Se llegó a la conclusión que en gran mayoría los profesionales odontólogos no tienen conocimiento del correcto desecho de residuos radiográficos, destacando la necesidad de recibir información
The Ministry of Health together with the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Ecuador has established laws to protect humans and the environment. Radiographic wastes result from dental radiography, essential diagnosis method for the detection of pathologies in the oral cavity. The aim of this study was to evaluate how the dentists of the Metropolitan District of Quito (Pichincha, Ecuador) 2014-2015 manage the waste produced by the radiographic activity. Two hundred sixteen professionals answered a questionnaire with objective questions about the disposal of liquid developer, fixer, radiographic film and lead sheet in the radiographic package also they were ask level of knowledge of existing waste management laws. Approximately 52% of the surveyed discarded fixer and developer solution for the common drain, besides pulling the unsatisfactory radiographic films in regular trash. Nearly 48% discarded lead sheets in household waste. Sixty-one percent totally are unaware of the laws and regulations of waste management radiology and 93% of respondents said they would like a manual in which detail the management of radiology waste, generating a requirement for its creation.
