- Description
This research project considers the extraction of biodiesel from livestock fat, using lipase solution called Rhizopus Oryzae as a biocatalyst, a solvent hexane un order to improve the alcohol’s solubility with the rest of the reacting components, and two types of alcohol: ethane and methane. A 22 factorial design was employed, where the variables being assessed were: the quantity of enzyme and temperature, down in 10 experimental pairs. The temperature varied from 32,76°C to 41,2°C, and the amount of enzyme varied from 1,95% to 10% in weight. Using Statgraphics software, the optimal operating conditions were obtained for each alcohol, methane being the one that provide a higher level of conversion. New test were performed with methane in optimal conditions, varying the concentration of water in the solution: 0%, 30%, 50% and 70%. Infrared spectroscopy and chromatography of gas to biodiesel were analyzed in order to qualitatively determine the presence of esters. The best result of the experiment was 71,34%, using methylated spirits at 37°C and 0,85 g of enzyme, and the optimal operating conditions calculated by a statistic program were with methane: 0,60 g of enzyme at 39°C.
