Introducción: La pérdida prematura de dientes primarios es un problema de salud publica a nivel mundial. La calidad de higiene bucal favorece al proceso de caries dental que es el principal factor de la pérdida prematura. También se encuentran: Historia pasada de caries, traumatismos dentoalveolares y las caries no tratadas. Objetivo: Determinar las causas de exodoncia más comunes en la clínica de Odontopediatría de la UCSG. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio tipo clínico, observacional, analítico, descriptivo y transversal, la muestra estuvo constituida por 53 pacientes Resultados: Se demostró que la principal causa de exodoncia en pacientes pediátricos es la caries dental. El nivel de higiene oral de los pacientes en este estudio es deficiente, teniendo así mayor riesgo de generar caries. Conclusión: Este estudio es importante para motivar a los padres y a los niños y poder implementar hábitos de higiene oral en pacientes pediátricos.
Abstract: The premature loss of primary teeth is a public health problem worldwide. The quality of oral hygiene favors the process of dental caries that is the main factor of premature loss. They are also found: the past history of caries, dentoalveolar trauma, and untreated caries. Objective: To determine the most common causes of exodontics in the UCSG Pediatric Dentistry Clinic. Materials and methods: A clinical, observational, analytical, descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted, the sample consisted of 57 patients. Results: It was shown that the main cause of exodontics in pediatric patients is tooth decay. The level of oral hygiene of the patients in this study is poor, thus having a higher risk of caries. Conclusion: This study is important to motivate parents and children and to implement oral hygiene habits in pediatric patients.
