The purpose of this research was to expand the knowledge of the existence of all manual instruments for the elimination of interproximal biofilm and that can be used in the different clinical cases presented at the Integral Clinic of Dentistry of the University of the Americas; Differentiate the characteristics, use and the respective handling of the different interdental devices for their correct use. Objective: To determine the different manual instruments that are effective for the elimination of interproximal biofilm through the bibliographic review. Materials and methods: The present research is a Review of the literature. This type of research is selective that allows the collection and extraction of key information from compelling bibliographic sources, such as scientific papers (Pudmed, Ebsco, Scielo); Including reviews of scientific journals, monographs excluding information from the year 2007, to expand knowledge about manual instruments for the elimination of interproximal biofilm. Conclusions: To maintain a good oral hygiene is necessary the daily use of the toothbrush, but to reduce the amount of interproximal plaque it is necessary to complement it with other elements. The interdental devices are a great complement to eliminate the interproximal biofilm, until it preserves the interdental papilla without invading the biological space of the dental structures.
La finalidad de esta investigación fue ampliar el conocimiento de la existencia de todos los instrumentos manuales para la eliminación del biofilm interproximal y que se pueda utilizar en los diferentes casos clínicos que se presenten en la Clínica Integral de Odontología de la Universidad de las Américas; diferenciar las características, uso y el respectivo manejo de los diferentes dispositivos interdentales para su correcta utilización. Objetivo: Determinar los diferentes instrumentos manuales que son eficaces para la eliminación del biofilm interproximal mediante la revisión bibliográfica. Materiales y métodos: La presente investigación es una Revisión de la literatura. Este tipo de investigación es selectiva que permite la recopilación y extracción de información principal de fuentes bibliográficas convincentes, como artículos científicos (Pudmed, Ebsco, Scielo); incluyendo revisiones de revistas científicas, monografías excluyendo informaciones inferiores del año 2007, para ampliar los conocimientos acerca de los instrumentos manuales para la eliminación del biofilm interproximal. Conclusiones: Para mantener una buena higiene bucal es preciso el uso diario del cepillo dental, pero para reducir la cantidad de placa interproximal es necesario complementarlo con otros elementos. Los dispositivos interdentales son un gran complemento para eliminar el biofilm interproximal, hasta preserva la papila interdental sin invadir el espacio biológico de las estructuras dentales.
