Efecto de la dimensión vertical en la postura de la cabeza y en la eficacia masticatoria de pacientes dentados y desdentados totales

Vertical dimension, the distance between two specific points, one fixed in the upper jaw and the other movable in the jaw, to refer to the occlusion, the vertical dimension is the reference of the jaw with respect to the upper jaw when the teeth upper and lower occlude, the optimal height is considered 15 to 20 mm, when the vertical dimension decreases we must recover it to return myofunctional parameters, bite force and aesthetics. Objective: To determine if the increase or decrease of the vertical dimension changes the posture of the head and how it influences the chewing efficiency. Method: Four profile photographs were taken with increments of acrylic blocks from 0, 5, 10 and 15 mm, one for each hemiarcada, placed in occlusal of the premolars. Results: The augmented vertical dimension was standardized with acrylic blocks in 5, 10, and 15mm and with acrylic teeth, this rotates the head up to 38 degree, measuring them with a grader in the angle formed by the plumb line and a line drawn from the drink, influencing the masticatory efficacy Conclusions: We conclude that there is an association between an increase in OVD and posterior rotation of the head. The greater the increase in DVO, the greater the posterior rotation of the head.
Dimensión vertical, es la distancia entre dos puntos específicos, uno fijo en el maxilar superior y otro móvil en la mandíbula. Cuando nos referirnos a oclusión, la dimensión vertical es la referencia de la mandíbula con respecto al maxilar superior cuando los dientes superiores e inferiores ocluyen, la altura óptima se considera entre 15 a 20mm, cuando la dimensión vertical disminuye debemos recuperarla para devolver parámetros miofuncionales, fuerza de mordida y estética. Objetivo: Determinar si el aumento o la disminución de la dimensión vertical cambian la postura de la cabeza y cómo influye en la eficacia masticatoria. Método: Se tomaron cuatro fotografías de perfil, sentados en una silla estática con fondo negro y una plomada, se aumentó la dv con bloques acrílicos que fueron de 0, a 5, 10 y 15 mm, un bloque para cada hemiarcada, colocados en la cara oclusal a nivel de los premolares. Resultados: La dimensión vertical aumentada, fue estandarizada con bloques de acrílico en 5, 10, y 15mm, ello hace rotar la cabeza hasta 38 grados, midiéndolos con un graduador en el ángulo formado por la plomada y una línea trazada desde el trago, influyendo en la eficacia masticatoria Conclusiones: Concluimos que existe asociación entre aumento de la DVO y la rotación posterior de la cabeza. Mientras mayor sea el aumento de DVO, mayor es la rotación posterior de la cabeza.
