Eficacia de un rotafolio sobre tratamientos odontopediátricos aplicado en la clínica de especialidades odontológicas-UDLA

The lack of knowledge about oral health in the general population, especially children, has increased the need to generate ideas to improve knowledge and promote oral health, on the other hand, the fear of the dentist that children have to attend to the appointment interferes negatively at the time of making the treatments increasing the number of appointments and creating an environment not friendly for children, it is important to perform a good conditioning before starting any dental treatment. There are several instruments to improve conditioning in children before starting any pediatric dentistry treatment such as the application of audiovisuals, flipcharts, teaching materials, and so for. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a flipchart on odontopediatrics treatments applied at the Dental Specialties Clinic-Udla, in order to improve knowledge about oral health and the treatments that will be performed, decrease the level of children anxiety before beginning with any treatment and improving the behavior of children with any dental treatment, for this, three surveys were conducted on 40 children who went to the Dental Specialties-Udla clinic to measure knowledge about oral health and about the treatments that are performed in pediatric dentistry, to evaluate the level of anxiety and the type of behavior before starting the treatment, 20 children after the surveys were carried out, they were instructed with the flipchart and the same surveys were repeated. The results showed the lack of knowledge of children in oral health in general and an increase in knowledge in children who were instructed with the flipchart, also showed positive results in the level of anxiety and the type of behavior after applying the flipchart. Therefore, it is concluded that the flipchart is an effective didactic tool to promote oral health in children, is easy to apply and is accepted by parents and children who come to the dental specialties-Udla clinic.
La falta de conocimiento sobre la salud oral en la población en general, en especial de los niños ha incrementado la necesidad de generar ideas para mejorar el conocimiento y promover la salud oral, por otro lado, el miedo al odontólogo que tienen los niños al acudir a la consulta interviene negativamente al momento de realizar los tratamientos incrementando el número de citas y creando un ambiente no amigable para los niños, es importante realizar un buen acondicionamiento antes de iniciar cualquier tratamiento dental. Existen varios instrumentos para mejorar el acondicionamiento en los niños antes de iniciar cualquier tratamiento odontopediátrico como la aplicación de audiovisuales, rotafolios, materiales didácticos entre otros. El objetivo del presente estudio es evaluar la eficacia de un rotafolio sobre tratamientos odontopediátricos aplicado en la Clínica de Especialidades Odontológicas-Udla, con el fin de mejorar el conocimiento sobre la salud oral y los tratamientos que se van a realizar, disminuir el nivel de ansiedad al acudir a la consulta odontológica y mejorar la conducta de los niños al realizarse cualquier tratamiento dental, para esto se realizó tres encuestas a 40 niños que acudieron a la clínica de Especialidades Odontológicas-Udla para medir el conocimiento sobre salud oral y sobre los tratamientos que se realizan en odontopediatría, para evaluar el nivel de ansiedad y el tipo de conducta antes de iniciar el tratamiento, a 20 niños después de realizadas las encuestas se les instruyó con el rotafolio y se volvió a realizar las mismas encuestas. Los resultados obtenidos demostraron la falta de conocimiento de los niños en la salud oral en general y un incremento del conocimiento en los niños que fueron instruidos con el rotafolio, también se observó resultados positivos en el nivel de ansiedad y el tipo de conducta después de aplicar el rotafolio. Por lo tanto, se concluye que el rotafolio es un instrumento didáctico eficaz para promover la salud oral en los niños, es de fácil aplicación y es aceptado por parte de los padres y de los niños que acuden a la clínica especialidades odontológicas-Udla.
