The main objective of this work is to analyze the purpose of The Union of South American Nations – UNASUR in the integrative process of Latin America and also its relevance in contrast to previous and actual initiatives. It tries to explain its main role played in the present and the importance it might gain in the future for Latin American countries trying to answer whether it is in the correct path and with the proper conditions in order to became the promoter of an authentic supranational conviction in the region. Through a prompt review of is integration efforts through history, this analysis tries to explain which are the real and different motivations, necessities and goals that their regional organism has in order to be considered an effective instrument of Latin America´s integration. Furthermore, it aims to analyze as well the strength of the foundations on which was established with the purpose of making a kind of comparative analysis with previous attempts and successful cases considered in order to project ourselves and uncover potential errors and opportunities. It becomes increasingly apparent in today's world the need to join forces to have a presence and role in the international arena. The Union of South American Nations - UNASUR, is both a new challenge and a new opportunity for this purpose is fulfilled.
Este trabajo tiene como objetivo principal analizar el papel que tiene la Unión de Naciones Sudamericanas – UNASUR en el proceso de integración de América Latina y su relevancia en contraste con iniciativas previas e incluso con las aún existentes. Se tratará de explicar cual es su verdadero rol en el presente y cual podría llegar a ser su trascendencia en el futuro de los países latinoamericanos, y si se lo ve en el camino correcto y con las condiciones propicias para poder convertirse en el gestor de una auténtica supranacionalidad en la región. Mediante un rápido vistazo de la historia de la integración, o más bien, de los intentos integracionistas de Latinoamérica; este estudio intenta explicar cuáles son las verdaderas necesidades, motivaciones y propósitos diferenciadores que posee este organismo regional para ser considerado un efectivo instrumento de integración. Además se pretende analizar la solidez de las bases sobre las cuáles fue establecido con el propósito de realizar una especie de análisis comparativo con intentos anteriores para así poder proyectarnos y descubrir posibles errores y oportunidades. En el mundo actual se vuelve cada vez más notoria la necesidad de unir fuerzas para poder tener presencia y protagonismo en el escenario internacional. La Unión de Naciones Sudamericanas – UNASUR, es al mismo tiempo un nuevo reto y una nueva oportunidad para que este objetivo pueda ser cumplido.
