Currently, Latin America is positioned as one of the most democratic regions, reaching historical levels of popular participation, therefore it can be explained from different perspectives. This research aims to find the variable that influences and increases voting intention, answering the following question: ¿What encourages people to participate in democratic voting processes in Chile and Venezuela? Thus rises the hypothesis proposing that social capital can be an incentive to participate in elections, it is also taking into account the support towards the government and the trust in the president. The interest in this study is not only to prove the significance of this variable, but also the way in which voting intention can reflect a civil commitment or a way to get involved in the society structure to modified it and improve it through social capital networks. It also considers the possibility in which the quality of democracy increases through social capital and has a positive effect on its consolidation.
Actualmente, Latinoamérica se posiciona como una de las regiones más democráticas del mundo, alcanzando niveles históricos de participación ciudadana. Un fenómeno que puede ser explicado desde varias perspectivas. En esta investigación se trata de encontrar las variables que pueden influenciar y aumentar la intención de voto en los ciudadanos, respondiendo a la siguiente pregunta; ¿Qué incentiva a la gente a participar en votaciones democráticas en Chile y Venezuela?. Así surge la hipótesis que plantea que el capital social puede ser un incentivo para participar en elecciones, tomando también en cuenta el apoyo al gobierno y la confianza en el presidente. El interés en este estudio no solamente es el de demostrar la significancia de esta variable, sino también la manera en que la intención de voto puede ser reflejo de un sentimiento cívico o de una forma de involucrarse en la estructura de la sociedad, modificándola para mejorarla, a través de redes de capital social. De esta manera, se plantea también la posibilidad de que la calidad de la democracia incremente a través del capital social y que tenga un efecto positivo en su consolidación.
