Description

Natural gas sweetening consists of the separation of CO2 and H2S from CH4 . Traditional solvents like amines are used in this process, but they present drawbacks such as low capacity, high equipment corrosion, high energy consumption and toxicity. Ionic liquids (ILs) are organic salts consisting of different cations and anions. The advantages of these novel solvents (non-volatility, chemical and thermal stability, non-toxicity and tailorability) make them the ideal alternative to amines.
