OBJETIVO: El objetivo general de esta investigación fue identificar el nivel de conocimiento, actitudes y prácticas que adopta el odontólogo frente a la detección del maltrato y abuso infantil. Como objetivos específicos se plantea: Identificar las actitudes tomadas por el odontólogo frente al manejo del maltrato y abuso infantil. Evaluar el tipo de prácticas ejercidas por el odontólogo frente a los posibles casos de maltrato y abuso infantil. Determinar el nivel de conocimiento del odontólogo frente al maltrato y abuso infantil. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Se realizó una revisión de la literatura, utilizando bases de datos como: Medline, Google Académico, Springer, SciELO, PubMed, ELSEVIER, donde se incluyen 72 artículos en inglés y español publicados en los últimos 7 años, los cuales fueron elegidos mediante criterios de inclusión y análisis relacionados como: maltrato infantil, abuso infantil, odontopediatría y rol del odontólogo. RESULTADOS: El abuso en infantes pueden ser de manera extra o intraorales las cuales pueden ser identificadas por el odontólogo. La utilización de mordazas, los hematomas sublinguales e incluso laceraciones son identificadas por el odontopediatra como abuso sexual, aunque existen otras lesiones que se puede sospechar como parte de la presencia de abuso sexual. CONCLUSIONES: Los profesionales la salud en odontología juegan un papel esencial en la detección y control de los maltratos y se encuentran en la obligación de denunciar los presuntos casos de malos tratos infantiles ante las autoridades protectoras de los menores.
OBJECTIVE: The general objective of this research was to identify the level of knowledge, attitudes and practices adopted by the dentist in the face of the detection of mistreatment and child abuse. As specific objectives it is proposed: Identify the attitudes taken by the dentist against the management of child abuse and mistreatment. Evaluate the type of practices carried out by the dentist in the face of possible cases of mistreatment and child abuse. To determine the level of knowledge of the dentist against mistreatment and child abuse. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A review of the literature was carried out, using databases such as: Medline, Google Scholar, Springer, SciELO, PubMed, ELSEVIER, including 72 articles in English and Spanish published in the last 7 years, which were chosen through inclusion criteria and related analyzes such as: child abuse, child abuse, pediatric dentistry and the role of the dentist. RESULTS: Abuse in infants can be extraoral or intraoral, which can be identified by the dentist. The use of gags, sublingual hematomas and even lacerations are identified by the pediatric dentist as sexual abuse, although there are other injuries that can be suspected as part of the presence of sexual abuse. CONCLUSIONS: Health professionals in dentistry play an essential role in the detection and control of abuse and are obliged to report suspected cases of child abuse to the child protection authorities.
